Emergency Custody

In some situations children face immediate risk of abuse or neglect at the hands of a parent / guardian or other person involved with a parent / guardian. The courts give these situations priority. So do our attorneys.

Interaction with the court in custody cases can be slow paced. In emergency situations there are various ways to make the system work faster. Most courts will review emergency custody petitions within hours of filing and immediately issue appropriate orders. Some situations call for immediate involvement of law enforcement or county agencies.

The courts, law enforcement, and county agencies all take different perspectives and play different roles in emergency custody situations. One must use caution in making allegations of abuse against another party in any context. It should be done only with assistance of an experienced custody attorney.

Our attorneys handle emergency custody situations on a regular basis.
